AUDITION FORM
Prior to auditioning for an ensemble, please fill out the form above. If you are a student who has previously performed in a choir concert while attending MVHS, please fill out the Returning Student Form. If you are an incoming 9th-grader or have not performed in a choir concert at MVHS please fill out the New Student Form.

LARGE ENSEMBLES AUDITIONS
Chorale & Troubadours
No audition is required for these ensembles, meaning any student can join. Most sopranos and altos who are new to MVHS will start in Chorale. Most tenors and basses who are new to MVHS will start in Troubadours.
Cantus & Concert Choir
There will be two methods of auditioning for advanced large ensembles this year: recorded and in-person auditions. If you are comfortable recording your audition, please do so in order to allow those who need an in-person audition more openings to schedule their audition time. In-person auditions for current MVHS students will be scheduled before school on in-person days and during the day on Wednesdays. In-person auditions for LVMS and MBMS students will take place at those schools. In-person auditions for all other students will be made by appointment by contacting Mr. Gomez directly by email at jgomez@mvsd320.org

Both types of audition will utilize the same process. Because there is no sight-reading element this year, all auditions will be considered for both advanced ensembles unless explicitly marked otherwise on your audition form.

SMALL ENSEMBLES AUDITIONS
Audition Form
Fill out and submit the Small Ensembles Audition Form (only fill out once if you are auditioning for multiple small ensembles)
Bel Canto & Undertones
Each small ensemble has submitted as selection from one of their pieces. Learn as many different parts as you want, then record and submit your auditions to the Flipgrid link below (sign in with your MVSD student account). Record a separate video for each part you're auditioning on (max of four videos) and sing along with the audio files below, which are missing the part you will be singing so you can complete the recording. Please play these recordings out loud (not on headphones) so we can hear you singing your part against the recording. After recording, there is an opportunity to review your video - use this to make sure you submit your best audition. As much as possible (this can be difficult when recording videos), try to balance your voice with the other parts. When submitting the video, edit the display name to your first and last name with the part you're singing in that video in parentheses - for instance: Jesus Gomez (Baritone). If you have any difficulty in the recording process, or are concerned about your ability to submit a recording over the internet, please contact Mr. Gomez by email.

Synergy
The Synergy audition consists of three parts: two 1-minute-long selections of solo pieces (one classical and one contemporary/pop/rock/jazz) and learning and singing a selection from one of Synergy's pieces from this year. This selection is still TBD, and you will be updated when it is ready. The following are instructions for each segment of the audition.
1. Classical Solo
Find a selection from the Intermediate or Advanced categories of the Solo Music page on this site, or use a piece you have been working on in voice lessons (please only submit a piece you have access to accompaniment for). You only need to learn, record, and submit one minute of the song - not the entire thing. Please use speakers for the accompaniment and try your best to balance your voice with the accompaniment in the recording (we understand this is an imperfect solution - do your best!)
Submit to this Flipgrid link: https://flipgrid.com/2519d84b`
2. Contemporary
Find a contemporary/popular song you feel highlights your voice the best, and submit a recording of one minute of that song. You can find karaoke/backing tracks for almost any song for free on YouTube, or accompany yourself (if you wish). Please use speakers for the accompaniment and try your best to balance your voice with the accompaniment in the recording (we understand this is an imperfect solution - do your best!)
3. Ensemble Piece
Synergy will select a section of one of their pieces to use for auditions. Learn as many different parts as you want, then record and submit your auditions to the Flipgrid link below. (sign in with your MVSD student account). Record and submit a separate video for each part you're auditioning on and sing along with the audio files below, which are missing the part you will be singing so you can complete the recording. Please play these recordings out loud (not on headphones) so we can hear you singing your part against the recording. After recording, there is an opportunity to review your video - use this to make sure you submit your best audition.
